DRAGON-BOND TRAINING: SPAR SESSIONS

IT'S TIME TO DUEL
Now that people have been here for a while and are fully bonded to their dragon souls, the NPCs are here to teach you how to be a proper dragon.

How?

By probably kicking your ass in battle. It's time to learn by example in hands-on demonstrations AKA sparring sessions! Choose your difficulty, select your fighter, and fight on.

None of these battles will end in any severe injuries; it's all in good fun to help teach people to use their dragon breath weapons and other capabilities (claws, fangs, etc.) to be prepared to defend themselves.
CHARLIE
NORMAL DIFFICULTY
ALT TEXT
Charlie mainly uses healing and defensive spells, as well as impeding spells in hopes of exhausting his opponents. He plays softball and doesn't seem to be taking this so much as a sparring match, but a game.

Dice Roll To Pass For A Win: 10
HARD DIFFICULTY
ALT TEXT
Half transformed and difficult to look at straight on, the incandescent semi-draconic form of the hapless god moves quickly and fires volleys of radiant magic. Have you ever played a bullet hell game? Get ready to.

Dice Roll To Pass For A Win: 17

DIMITRI
NORMAL DIFFICULTY
ALT TEXT
Less of a spar and more of a training lesson. Dimitri is quick on his feet and delivers hard, punishing slaps with the flat side of his blade that may lave a bruise. Movements are tight and calculated with an emphasis on economy of motion and energy. He critiques your form as you spar and praises you when you make a good move.

Dice Roll To Pass For A Win: 12
HARD DIFFICULTY
ALT TEXT
You get to see the powers of a Blade Savant as Dimitri's multiple swords float free from his body and make independent attacks. He's still quick and calculated, but now you feel like you're fighting a beyblade with knives attached.

Dice Roll To Pass For A Win: 15

SLAYD
NORMAL DIFFICULTY
ALT TEXT
You feel it in your fingers, you feel it in your toes, you're fighting a fae-raised bard, and you've got to know- you picked the wrong day to fuck around with Slayd's tight crew (possums), and boy does he perceive you. Get ready for a volley of avoidance tactics, distractions, illusions and other annoying bard skills. UGH.

Dice Roll To Pass For A Win: 8
HARD DIFFICULTY
ALT TEXT
Oh, he's transformed now. Anyone ever play Monster Hunter and remember Zinogre? Yeah. He's going to charge you like a raging bull covered in crackling electricity. Wind buffets you and if his horns, claws or fangs don't catch you, the electricity will. Welcome to a nightmare Pikachu.

Bestiary

Flora, Fauna, & Natives of the World
While there is much familiar to most here, this is still a fantastical land full of all kinds of creatures!

What is listed here is not exhaustive and this page will be updated as areas are unlocked and players explore more of the setting.

Native Races
Children of Men

Children of Men cover all the common human-adjacent races such as humans, elves, dwarves, gnomes, hobbits etc etc.

Children of Beasts

Essentially, furries. Gnolls would fall into this category for example, but this extends to any species/hybrid.

Greater Dragons

The metallic and chromatic dragons of classic D&D, with the exception of predisposed alignment/personality. These dragons are unique individuals with distinctive motives and personalities. Their color does however define what element/breath weapon they have command of. For that, you may reference 5e D&D manuals.
Lesser Dragons

These are the result of interspecies breeding. When a greater dragon mixes with another type or species entirely, the bloodline becomes diluted and lesser dragons are produced. The combinations and types are too varied and nuanced to fully detail.

Monsters

Monsters are common across Kamurkia. Typically they are defined by the monster manuals for classic D&D with some exceptions (see: dragons), if you are unsure if a certain monster could exist in this world feel free to ask! Most monsters will be accounted for as possible encounters when a new location is unlocked.
The Fae

Oh yes, the fae folk are something to contend with. It will be notable if you do encounter one... tread with caution. They are ever fond of tricks!

Quest Board

Quests & Reputation
You and your fellow players can do quests out in the surrounding area to help build the reputation of your town. Outsiders are not easily trusted, especially ones with strange powers. That said, the more good deeds you and your fellows perform then the more comfortable the world will be with you at large. You can also earn some gold that can be traded with merchants across the land, find or receive interesting/unusual magical items, or even earn some bonds to exchange with Charlie!

As your reputation rises as a group, you deepen your bond with the land and new areas will become accessible to you as well as more amenable to hosting the people from your town.

Quests will be ranked by stars, up to five! One being easy and five being the hardest available at that moment. The harder the quest, the greater the reward and reputation will become. But be careful, you can also lose reputation if some of you fail at your tasks or run amok!

Current Reputation
033 / 100
(Reward: Access to ???.)
Current Quests
The quest board will be updated when all of the quests of each rank are completed.

Quest Submissions
Quests or missions can either be threaded out and submitted when complete or you can do a write up on what happened and how it went!

Open Quests
⁂ For open quests, there is no limit to how many times people can take these on. They are the equivalent of your 'repeatable' quests in RPG settings.
⁂ The only restriction is that we ask people wait seven (7) days after submitting for and receiving the rewards from one quest before submitting for another. This is because we want everyone to have a chance to look at and engage with the quest board as well as pace the growth of reputation and expansion into the setting in an organic-seeming way!

However: This is only for officially submitting for a quest on the page. If you want to start a log or thread before you're allowed to submit for an open quest, that's totally fine! The point of them is mostly to be an extra way for players to engage in the setting if an event isn't to their fancy, they want to focus on reputation, etc. Once you're allowed to, you can submit for the quest and link the started thread with your rolls to receive rewards. (Added 10/31/2024)
Quest Submission Form (Open)
Exclusive Quests
⁂ For exclusive quests, anyone can make a submission to take them on but if multiple players wish to take the same one, OOCly the moderators will RNG who receives it and - after the first round - give preference going forward to those who have not received an exclusive quest yet.
⁂ ICly, since exclusive quests are more difficult and, well, exclusive- A quest master will interview the applicants and decide who seems best for the job. They, too, will give preference to new adventurers rather than veterans in order to better establish offworlders reputation as a whole in Town and beyond.
⁂ This will be decided once a week on Sundays to allow time for people to put in their interest. Those who do not get selected will have their comments screened and may try again the following week!
Quest Submission Form (Exclusive)
Just comment here under the appropriate header with either of the forms above to submit your quest interest or results.

Quest Suggestions
If you have your own idea for a quest or mission, let us know here! We'd love to see what players would like to do in the setting with their characters and be involved in worldbuilding themselves.

We'll let you know if it's approved and any changes we may have made before adding it to the sheet!

NPCs

World NPCs

Charlie
Age
???
Class
Cleric
The recently-christened 'god' of this land. As such, he was voluntold stepped up to take on the task of helping off-worlders getting settled and situated in this realm. While he may not seem very much like a deity, know that he is trying his best and this all very new to him.

inbox
Slayd
Age
Around 209
Class
Bard
Embodies the phrase "Oh bless your heart" (derogatory). Slayd spends most of his time in half-glamour, on account of his aversion to wearing pants (fur is more comfortable and breathable). His bark is definitely worse than his bite. He could be described as your typical tsundere but he's honestly too stupid to mask his emotions well enough to fit that trope. He just wants to work on his (adopted) grandparents farm and be left to his own devices.

Claims, Taken List, & Drops

Character Claims
Welcome to Children of Bahamut! We're happy you're interested in joining our community. While there are no applications to join, there is a character claim. These are done on a first-come, first-serve basis.

To claim a character and have them added to the taken list, please fill out the form below and comment here. A moderator will process and approve your claim as soon as they are able to!

Character Claim Form

MOD NOTE/UPDATE (9/27/24): An updated dragon chart for reference! You can suggest a dragon type here chosen from metallic or chromatic (including steel) and request a dragon with a personality aligned with or opposed to your characters personality. The only reason we are not allowing people to pick themselves is so there are a more diverse selection of dragon-souls. (Golden dragons are super cool though, we know!)

Activity Page

Activity
Children of Bahamut is a check-in game that will not require comment counts for activity. Instead, players will be asked to leave a comment if they're still interested in remaining in the game! Anything else they wish to submit for activity will be entirely optional and outlined below.

Due to this, there will be no hiatus page. If you need to ask for a retroactive hiatus or will be unable to comment by the end of the month due to extenuating circumstances, please use the mod contact page.

Activity Rewards
Charlie's Wishes
If you want an item, object, building or any other material items from home (or otherwise), Charlie is a godish and can help with that! That said, his power is tremendously diminished due to, again, saving the world from the brink of collapse. You must contribute the necessary energy to him in the form of bonds.

What are bonds? Well, they're like they sound! Your bonds are those forged to the realm and the other residents within it. The more interactions you have, the deeper your bonds will become. You can then trade this energy to Charlie so that he can help summon what you desire without further depleting his own pool of energy that he is working on recovering to send you all home! You are helping him cast a form of the Wish spell, after all!
How do bonds work?
    Bonds = Points.
Although our unique way of defining it, bonds are essentially points that you can optionally tally up to get an item, object, building or any other material items from home (or otherwise). Obviously, bigger things will cost more bonds.

Where do threads need to be to count?
Any comments posted in [community profile] childrenofbahamut, [community profile] childrenofbahamutlogs, [community profile] childrenofbajablast, or character inboxes will count.

If using TDM threads, characters do not need to be accepted into the game for the threads to count! We understand that plans fall through and TDMs are sometimes just for funsies. This shouldn't punish the characters in-game though and you'll be able to count these threads as normal whether or not the person you were threading with joined the game proper or not.

    Only completed threads will count.
This is defined as either 1) completed by the two players or 2) finished out in the form of a write-up or little mini-fic hashed out between all players involved.

In the case of a player dropping, we still encourage people to hash out/summarize how a thread would have gone when they're informed of this decision! If that isn't possible, we'll leave it to the remaining player to decide the best outcome for their character when summarizing for bonds. (Added 12/31/2024)

Additionally, bonds can only be submitted the month the threads occurred - if a thread goes on for a few months though, submitting it in the month it was officially completed is acceptable!

After some feedback and re-evaluating the activity reward system, we've made an adjustment to the way it works! Our goal was to incentivize activity, not limit or punish people, and hopefully these changes reflect that. While we are keeping the monthly limit of twenty (20) bonds per month to pace rewards to incentivize and reward long-term investment, we are no longer requiring that completed threads may only be submitted in the month they were completed. Going forward, players can bank excess bond points to be able to turn in whenever they so wish.

So long as threads are completed or handwaved with a write-up, it does not matter how old they are. For example, if you finished a thread in October but already had your 20 point limit, you can turn that thread in instead in November, December, and so on. That way, even on slow activity months, you can use prior threads to be able to hit your 20 point cap if you so wish! As of right now, we are also not putting an expiration date on any threads but may re-evaluate that later.

This will ultimately be the player's responsibility to keep track of and ensure that they are not re-using threads already submitted. (We'll also check to make sure, but appreciate the assistance on your end as well!)
    (Added 11/30/2024)

The type of thread determines the amount of bonds.
⁂ 1 fully completed action or log thread = Five (5) bonds.
      ⁂ 1 fully completed conversation/text thread = One (1) bond.

Why are text threads less than action brackets/prose threads?
Although some text threads can get quite intensive, they tend to be the 'easier' ones for people to complete. They also tend to be limited to one-on-one communications through the sending-stones.

By contrast, action brackets/prose threads are where characters are interacting with each other in real time. This is not only more intimate by nature but also might see them engaging with the world around them including the natives of the world. Since that's what these bonds are all about, we want to reward people for having their characters engaging with the setting versus sitting at home on their smart rock.

    Is there a monthly limit?
While we appreciate the enthusiasm, we don't want people to burn out either! For this reason, the limit is currently twenty (20) bonds or four completed threads/write-ups per calendar month.

Bonds are also limited to be per character rather than per player as of our answer here on the FAQ. This means that bonds are capped at twenty (20) bonds per character a month. Rewards that are 40 will take 2 months, 60 will take 3 months, and so on. (Added 10/31/2024)

What if my threads take a long time to complete?
That's completely fine! In fact, it's encouraged. The point of this isn't to rush anyone into completing threads or make it a race to see who can tag the fastest. We expect it to take some time before bonds are generated by players for submission since... Well, that's the point of literal bonds too!

Again, this is entirely optional and not to force anyone to tag at a faster pace and why we offered the option of a write-up in place of a completed thread. So long as people are communicating and on the same page about their character's interactions, that's all we hope for.

Example Rewards & Costs
Here are some examples as to what characters can expect to be able to summon as their bonds to the world and others grow stronger!

Five Bonds - A small-sized item from home, such as a personal handheld device or a favorite book. Be warned though: the service here is non-existent so anything that connects to the internet usually... won't.

Ten Bonds - A medium-sized item from home, such as a familiar piece of furniture or musical instrument.

Fifteen Bonds - An animal companion. This could be your best friend from home or a companion from another canon, your design, etc. As long as they're not an appable character, they can be summoned.

Twenty Bonds - An item they had back home that would provide long-term assistance within the setting. A collection of scrolls for a wizard, for example, or a rogue's fully-loaded thieves tool kit.

Thirty Bonds - A personal setting addition! This could be a building of the character's choice whether from home or a business title (tavern, produce farm, etc) and location to operate their own within the game.

Forty Bonds - An additional character slot. The strings of fate (you, that's you in this scenario) are able to summon forth another character and bypass the limit in place of only two; however, you can have no more than four (4) under your control.

Sixty Bonds - A "get resurrected by Charlie for free" pass. This can be purchased and used for anyone who happens to die, not just the one who asked for the pass! This will negate the cost of death although we ask that it be limited to once every two quarters (or six months.)

Please note this is not an extensive list. If you or your character want something that is not explicitly listed, please feel free to post a comment requesting it and we'll guesstimate how much it will cost. We will reach out to let you know before your submission is completely processed to see if you'd like to continue with the request as well.

For power regains, feel free to also guesstimate or contact the moderators directly to hash things out! Since powers can vary wildly, our hope is as we receive more of these requests that we'll have a better idea of how much ones will cost overall. (Added 10/31/2024)

Activity Submission
Once you are accepted into the game, please post a comment with your name, and then your character's name in a subheader below that. Here is an example of what it should look like posted by the mod journal.

After seeing some people do both a check-in and bond submission, we wanted to clarify you only need to do one. If you turned in activity/bonds, then you don't need to check-in! Alternatively, if you have no bonds to submit you only need to check-in. We provided examples of both simply to show the differences, not indicate that you needed to do both types. We apologize for any confusion! (Added 11/01/2024)

General Activity
For your monthly check-in, there is no specific format! Funny meme posts and gifs are optional, but enjoyed.

Just make sure you comment under the appropriate character header on the correct journal and we'll take it from there.
Bond Submissions
If no bonds were earned in the current month, that's totally fine! Please just comment saying so. While we will remind players on the last day of the month to submit any threads they might have completed for bonds, it is ultimately your responsibility to ensure this is done.

Otherwise, please post the header "MONTH (BONDS)", and use the following to submit for rewards points:

Event Calendar

Event Calendar

Events
Event #3: Vorrun Welcomes You (May 5th, 2025)
Only recently has aught been learned of Vorrun, relatively speaking. Previously a secretive city-state sequestered off from the rest of the world, Vorrun has now joined the alliance of Kamurkia and begun to deal in open trade. It is a sanctuary for beastmen, who still suffer some discrimination, and as such they have developed a close-knit community.

Correspondence from Nobu, a leader of their community, reaches Charlie. It is a request for aid from him and the offworlders he's been overseeing. Although a great ask, he has seemingly exhausted all other options dealing with increasingly aggressive monsters and keeping his people safe.

They are still trying to determine the cause of the sudden shift of the surrounding monster's temperaments in the meantime and maybe a few more eyes wouldn't hurt in figuring it out.
Weather / Natural Occurrences
    May 1st ~ 15th
Spring has fully sprung! Plants are pollinating aplenty, warm breezes roll through the valley, and temperatures are consistently comfortable. There is more sun than anything these days and both nature and citizens alike seem to be enjoying it to the fullest.
    May 15th ~ 31st
While the weather is perfectly fine still, reports of rumbling throughout the continent begin to reach Town through word of mouth. By and large, they appear to be small tremors almost unnoticeable except to those sensitive to it. Town so far is spared from any disturbance but it is suspicious how nearly every surrounding area is experiencing some activity.

Near the end of the month, traveling merchants will speak of a large earthquake that rocked Raumm. Thankfully, the city is engineered amazingly and so they suffered minimal damages. The cause of the natural movement is yet unknown though they are investigating it.

Dragon-Souls

Dragon-Souls
Congratulations! You are now synced to the soul of a Greater Dragon (i.e., Chromatic, Metallic). Dragons do not follow an alignment chart in this world and thus are individuals not beholden to one given nature. (... Basically, we're letting you make your own Sonic dragon OC!)

Some basic things to remember are:
⁂ Your dragon chose you for reasons only known to them. Perhaps they fully align with you and your inherent beliefs. Or perhaps they feel as though they have something to teach you. Either way, your bond with them can and will grow over time should you tend to it and spend more time within this world.

⁂ As your bond grows, you will begin to experience changes. From the emergence of scales, horns, claws, to tails, wings, and even the use of a breath-weapon. This will extend all the way to being able to transform yourself fully for certain periods of time.

⁂ You will also be affected by the personality of your dragon as well! To what degree this happens is up to player discretion and comfort. While it won't cause your character to be completely OOC, they might be more temperamental than usual or maybe more emotionally-prone if usually stoic and closed off. We won't police how this manifests or what it looks like for each individual so long as it's kept within reason and fun for all.

⁂ Finally, this mechanic is based on how long you have been in the game. At five (5) months you can become a dragon in full! What your character looks like as a dragon is up to you. After this time, you will feel a close bond with your patron dragon and share their memories and experiences. You can shift between forms now, looking entirely like yourself, fully a dragon, or anywhere in between.

A general timeline is outlined below.

Month 1
You begin to show patches of scales or fur, your nails begin to harden and sharpen, you may find the tiny beginnings of horns or spines budding. You are prone to hot or cold flashes. You have a distinct feeling of not being alone in your own head. There is a presence and occasionally, you may hear distant words. They are hard to make out.

Month 2
You hear their voice clearly. You can have conversations with them. You begin to feel itchy in various places. Scale coverage is more even across your body, you begin to show the start of a tail and bony appendages that could be the beginnings of wings. The horns have grown a few inches now and you have fully-fledged claws. You begin to experience occasional "accidents" with your breath weapon.

Month 3
Coverage of scales/fur is as complete as you so desire, your claws strengthen and your horns have fully emerged. A tail is now present as are wings, though neither is useful yet. These transformations can be as painful or unobtrusive as you wish. You have better control over your breath weapon.

Month 4
Your wings and tail have reached full size! As for flight... you are capable but you must learn. It does not come innately. You appear to be closer to half-dragon now. A dragon-furry, if you will. You have steady control over your breath weapon.

Month 5
You can now fully transform into the type of dragon you have been bonded to. The appearance is up to you so long as it is somewhat in-line with your dragon type, however you are not constrained to exact appearances. Merely, that silver dragons will have primarily silver scales etc. Embellishments are fully up to you! We want to see you design your dragon! You feel a close bond with your patron dragon and share their memories and experiences. You can shift between being fully yourself, fully a dragon, or anywhere in between as you desire. You have full mastery of your breath weapon with deadly accuracy.

F.A.Q.

Frequently Asked Questions
If you have a question...
... then you've come to the right place! Here, we'll do our best to answer whatever questions we thought of in the building of this game.

We can't consider everything though and that's where you come in! Please comment if you have a question that's not addressed in the basic F.A.Q. We will add to it as needed.
IC Questions
    Where am I?
You are on the continent of Kamurkia, which is recovering from a great calamity. Specifically, you are in Town to start. Charlie has created this town to house the off-worlders that are now arriving... and seem unable to maintain their forms too far away from the summoning-circle.

You can find a more detailed explanation of Town and other locations here.

    How did I get here?
So, about that summoning circle: It appeared out of nowhere and began bringing in people from off-world. No one really seems to know why! It just kind of happened, honestly, and most people are as confused as anyone arriving.

    What did I arrive with?
Characters arrive with what was on their person before they were summoned. Items that cannot fit within bags or pockets (or that were not physically strapped onto them) do not arrive with characters. If they were in a car or on a motorcycle at the time of summoning, unfortunately, their sweet ride doesn't make the trip. They also do not arrive with any companion animals that may have been with them at the time.

Yet, you may not have to be separated from Fido forever. Some things you'll be able to summon once your bond to this world is strong enough.

    Who is Charlie?
Charlie is actually the recently-christened god of this land! As such, he was voluntold stepped up to take on the task of helping off-worlders getting settled and situated in this realm.

If Charlie is a god, why can't he just send me home?
His power and magic has all but been depleted due to his efforts in helping stop the calamity from claiming the world. Really takes it out of a guy, let him tell you.

Fine. If I'm stuck here, where will I live?
Town itself has cottages ranging from small single living to large family accommodations that are being continuously built to suit off-worlders needs. It is primitive living: no running water, electricity or modern conveniences, but it’s a solid roof over your head with basic furnishings and a garden to boot! Also, it's free.

    What's the local population like?
Although Town is mostly made up of off-worlders, the bordering villages seem to be a diverse mix of races found throughout this world. From humans, elves, dwarves and halflings, to the myriad species of beastmen, fae and other fantastical creatures, everyone presents a more or less united front. Differences have been set aside, or at least placed on hold, in the interest of bringing their home back from the brink.

    What's the local flora/fauna like?
Familiar (to most) creatures like chickens, livestock and the like wander the area. There is plenty of flora that also might look similar to if not be pretty much the same as what you'd find at home while foraging.

You can find a more detailed explanation of things to find in nature on the bestiary.

How do I communicate with others?
(i.e. Is there a network? What’s that like?)

With your words, silly! But if you mean long-distance communication then that's what your sending-stone is for. It is a small stone tablet - that might have subtle, minor personalized markings as your bond to this world grows stronger - that you can commune through others with. Your rocky talky, if you will.

You can use it as a mirror to project your image to others, write letters along the stone surface to send, or speak into it. (It is capable of all the expected functions of standard roleplay networks. Text, video or voice, and locational tracking as well.)

    Are there any language barriers?
Everyone has a permanent charge of Tongues cast on them upon arrival. That means you can all speak and understand each others' languages as if they were your own. That said, it is intent-based. If you wish to speak your own language specifically and have it be heard as such, you can do so by focusing on it.

What about my powers or natural abilities?
They will be nerfed if they are supernatural things like magic or psychic powers and can break the game setting. Other, lesser abilities will still work but possibly at a fraction of their effectiveness to begin with and up to player discretion! They can also grow as you bond with the world, but game-breaking powers will never be restored to their full power. Natural skills such as swordsmanship will be retained, again, within reason! (Basically, if it makes your character completely OP, you will probably be nerfed. If you aren’t sure, ask us!)

    I'm not human...
That's fine! Your character will be whatever natural size/shape they are, within reason. Obviously if you played the King of All Cosmos you will be sized down accordingly. If you do not eat conventional food, you will find the food in Town will sustain you as your natural diet would.

Why can't I move to a different city?
In the future, this might be possible! For now though, off-worlders seem to get a little unstable once they travel too far from the summoning circle for any extended period of time. While a few days to a week is fine, after that they begin to fall ill and will not improve in health until in close proximity with the summoning circle. Until it's discovered what is causing this then Charlie will insist people stay close to be safe.

(Plus, you trying saying no to that pleading face.)

    I'm a troublemaker/loner/menace/etc.
You're certainly free to be as such, but remember: in-character actions have in-character consequences! Loners will be encouraged by the mechanics of the game to cooperate with others. As for troublemaking, people will probably try to stop you stirring too much trouble! If you want to stir a specific kind of special trouble though, the mods can help facilitate that as well... >:)

Just beware of being too naughty lest Charlie catches you! You don’t want to be put in nasty baby jail or end up in the custody of one of the city-states of the world. It's not a good time.

Can I do the mission/quests by myself?
Sure, but your likelihood of success will be low and the possibility of injury or even death will be higher. Teamwork makes the dream work here in Children of Bahamut and we encourage people to work together to accomplish great things!

So, what was up with that weird dragon dream?
As it turns out, you are now synced to the soul of a Greater Dragon (i.e., Chromatic, Metallic, or otherwise). Dragons do not follow an alignment chart in this world and thus are individuals not beholden to one given nature. Your dragon chose you for reasons only known to them.

To understand what this means for your character, check out a more detailed explanation here.

What happened to my friend (aka: how are drops handled)?
Just as mysteriously as people are summoned to this world, they are... un-summoned, we guess! Although all their things will remain, the people who knew them can take their belongings as they see fit. Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be a rhyme or reason as to who stays or gets sent back home. All one can do is hope for the best and enjoy the time they manage to get with those they come to get to know here.

OOC Questions
What is your application claim like?
Children of Bahamut will operate on a character claim system rather than traditional applications! These will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. There will be no app period/cycle and instead claims will be continuously open and updated as they are received.

You can find out more on character claim page itself.

If there's no application, how do I know what characters are already taken?
We do have a taken list that will be updated as frequently as the moderators are able to. If you aren't sure though, you're also free to check the character claim page comments to double-check!

    Who can claim characters?
Children of Bahamut is invite-only. Anyone who is friends with moderators directly are able to use them for their invitation. For those who are not, they'll need an invitation from someone currently in the game and it is limited to one invitation per person.

For example, if X invites Y to the game then X cannot also be the one to invite Z. Z will need to find someone else to invite them that's currently in the game.

How many characters can I claim?
For now, we are putting a limit of two characters per player. We may adjust this in the future depending on the size and pace of the game.

For now, players can save up their bonds for another character slot. This will be limited to every two months at most and also capped at four (4) characters per person.

What kind of characters can I claim?
As of right now, the characters we are allowing in Children of Bahamut are:

Fandom - A character from a novel, movie, comic book, video games, etc. that is established in that world.
Differing adaptations - Things like the Marvel Cinematic Universe vs. the Comicsverse. While characters may share names and appearances, a lot of times they are different enough from one another to be considered different characters.
Fandom OCs - A character made and/or inspired by a specific canon that has no relation or deep connection to any of the main characters. A good example of this would be an FFXIV character that isn't the Warrior of Light but instead just an adventurer from Eorzea and separated from the main storyline of the game.
Malleable protagonists - They also fall under the 'fandom OC' category. Additionally, more than one is allowed so long as they differ enough from one another (Renegade vs. Paragon Shepards, for example).
Original Characters - A character that is from a world of your design OR tabletop campaigns and MMOs.
CRAU Characters - Characters that come from another gameverse, jamjar, or whatever! All we ask is that players communicate amongst one another if the CRAU they are apping in had established relationships with certain characters in their previous game that may need to be discussed.

What kind of characters can I NOT claim?
As of right now, these characters are ones we do not consider applicable:

Real People - While we don't mind characters in fictional works BASED on true history or events (Hetalia), we don't want someone applying Christopher Columbus to try and take over this new land.
Fan AUs - This means 'the road not taken' AUs of what if a character did x instead of y.
Characters with little to no screen time - While we all love our minor characters, yes, if they only showed up for a thirty-second cameo and had one line, they aren't viable to play in this setting.

    What about duplicates?
As mentioned up above, we will allow differing adaptations of the same characters. For example, the same character from Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Fire Emblem: Three Hopes could both exist in the setting since one is considered a canon AU. If you aren't sure whether your character differs enough from the one already in game, feel free to ask the moderators!

However, to avoid things getting too silly, we are limiting this to two of the same character.

Are there any cast or game caps?
As of right now, we do not have any cast caps; however, we may adjust this as necessary depending on if we notice a cast growing significantly and taking up a large portion of the playerbase.

Children of Bahamut itself has a player cap of forty (40) players and eighty (80) characters as of right now. As people turn in their bonds for more character slots, we will update this accordingly!

    Are there any power restrictions?
Not really! Obviously, characters can't control the summoning circle or find any way to send themselves back home. Otherwise, we ask that players use their best judgement to either 1) self-nerf their characters as mentioned earlier or 2) communicate with the moderators on anything they aren't sure about. Generally, as long as it wouldn't ruin the setting or do irreversible damage etc. then it's probably fine for your character to keep to a lessened degree!

What if my character is chronically ill or on the brink of death when summoned?
If gravely injured or on the brink of death, characters will be healed just enough for their wounds to not be fatal and receive aid. However, this is a more privative world so while healing magic does exist and can help... characters won't recover immediately.

For those that are chronically ill or facing a permanent affliction (zombification, vampirism, etc.), not to worry! You're not the only one, friend, and there will be something to help ensure you can live comfortably with your condition.

Are there any age restrictions on characters?
Due to the mature themes that will be touched upon occasionally in Children of Bahamut, we ask that characters at at least mentally and physically sixteen or older.

    Is mature/NSFW content allowed?
Absolutely! While it won't be the focus of the game, we leave that up to the players to explore at their discretion. In the case of player characters under eighteen, we just ask that people be especially mindful of content warnings.

Does that mean I can write smut?
Yes! Smut is encouraged even! Just make sure you mark it as NSFW in the subject line or title of what you’re writing.

    What are the activity requirements?
Children of Bahamut is a check-in game that will not require comment counts for activity. Instead, players will be asked check-in once a month to ensure they're still interested in continuing to remain in the game.

That said, we do have an Activity Rewards system that rewards characters with varying bonuses, re-gains, and so on once bond to this world is strong enough!

What is the pacing going to be like?
The game will run on a 1:1 schedule but we're still working out how best to structure events, test drive memes, and give people space to make their own fun in the setting.

This is based off D&D, do I have to roll for things?
Sometimes you will, but that will be noted by the mods when it is required and will not be based around any stats and instead just be rolls of chance. This will typically be for missions/quests, fights, or other action-y events! Otherwise, you can if you want to personally but know it is not required!

    How will canon updates work?
Similar to how characters disappear for good, sometimes they might just 'blip' out of existence for a bit. Their sending-stone will still be active but they can't be reached. After a time, they'll re-appear at the summoning circle perhaps different than before but fundamentally the same (i.e. played by the same person vs someone new coming in with that character).

    How are character deaths handled?
Charlie has to cast Wish to resurrect you; however, this takes a toll on Charlie and sets everyone back from his progress toward getting you all home. It takes longer and longer to resurrect you after each death. Not only are you encouraged to avoid this, it is in the interest of the whole community to not let each other die. Also, it hurts! Death kind of sucks, honestly!

Rules

Game Rules
Overview
While this list of rules is not all-comprehensive or exhaustive, we ask that players please adhere to them to the best of their abilities.

Additionally, we want it to be known that these are also not set in stone. New rules may need to be added or old rules may need to be adjusted depending on situations that arise.
1. This game is invitation-only.
This space is for friends of the moderators and friends of those friends. This is to ensure the enjoyment of the moderators and players alike. Invitations from moderators do not have a limit. Invitations from players are one per person and will be kept track of.

However, the moderators reserve the right to disallow people from joining the game at their discretion.
2. Be kind to your fellow players.
We're all here to have fun and smash our fictional Barbies together. OOC harassment and bullying will not be tolerated and will result in either a strike or an outright ban depending on the severity and/or moderator discretion.

Children of Bahamut runs on a three-strike policy like many other DWRP spaces. Warnings will be considered first and foremost but those can still lead to strikes if the behavior continues in a noticeable pattern. The moderators also reserve the right to punish poor behavior as they see fit.

Any unacceptable behavior that makes other players feel unsafe can result in immediate removal from this space.
3. Communicating with each other is necessary.
Role-play is a collaborative hobby. As such, players are encouraged to discuss any issues that may arise between themselves first. Only after exhausting every option available, moderator mediation or intervention may be requested via the mod contact page. (We recommend that this only be used as a last resort!)

Mincing words is highly discouraged here. Excuses to avoid accountability will not be tolerated. Your issues and needs are your responsibility to communicate to others in a respectful way.

We are all adults and will be expected to behave as such. If you are unable to have a discussion or voice your wants/needs to someone due to anxiety, trauma, or other issues: regrettably, you should not be in this collaborative group setting and we encourage you to seek help for your needs from professional sources.
4. Don't leave anyone out.
While we understand that people have preferences in where they chat about role-play, we ask that players utilize all means of OOC communication possible with their fellow players.

Not everyone uses Plurk or Discord and so we encourage plotting for both game and player plots to be on the OOC community ([community profile] childrenofbahamutooc).
5. Powergaming is not allowed.
No matter how strong your character is in canon, there are limitations to their abilities here in Children of Bahamut. Again, this is a collaborative hobby and while having the coolest most badass character around may be fun for you, there are other people to consider.

Additionally, we do not allow info-modding (giving your character OOC knowledge they would have no way of knowing) or god-modding (taking control of another player's character). If we notice this or it is brought to our attention, consequences will occur.
6. IC Actions = IC Consequences. IC Actions =/= OOC Thoughts, Feelings, etc.
If you play an absolute dillhole, don't be surprised when people don't like them. You also can't take it personally! The actions your character takes in-game will have effects on how other characters perceive them. Therefore, IC feelings a character has for yours =/= OOC feelings the player has towards you. Draw that line in the sand right now!

However, we also ask that the players of the asshole characters consider what might be an appropriate 'stopping point' for antagonistic interactions. While we understand sometimes characters can go too far, that doesn't mean you as a player need to and make it an unpleasant experience OOCly as well as ICly.

Keep it reasonable and, more importantly, try to keep it fun for others interacting with them! Disagreements happen, characters will fight, and so on. Players should be communicating during this though to ensure that there are no hurt feelings or miscommunications that lead to further issues.
7. Warn for content where necessary.
We aren't about to judge for whatever you want to write. That's your business! All we will ask for is that you warn for content accordingly. If you aren't sure, err on the side of caution.

Do not spring things on other players unexpectedly or link someone to a thread that contains sensitive topics without it being clearly labeled.
8. Work with your moderators.
For the small things you'd like your character to do, go absolutely buck wild without needing moderator approval. Your character found a broken-down stable and is fixing it up to eventually start their own ranch once their bonds are strong enough? That's awesome. Good for them.

Your character wants to try and destroy the entire setting? Wait just a minute! For things that might affect the game and characters at large, please speak with the moderators first. We'll work something out.

In fact, it's likely that ideas that are more widespread can be proposed as player plots or the moderators can help you integrate it into an event. We want to find a way that everyone can have fun with your idea if possible!
9. A certain level of activity and courtesy is expected.
While AC is a little different here, we still expect players to be active and engaged! That said, we completely understand that life can get in the way of our pretendy fun times.

A retroactive hiatus (asking for a hiatus at the end of a month rather than the beginning) needs to be brought to the moderators for approval. While we know that sometimes things out of one's control cause them to realize a month has gone by somehow, we will have a discussion with players where this becomes a trend rather than an exception.

If you aren't feeling it anymore in Children of Bahamut for whatever reason, it is common courtesy to officially put in your drop so the moderators may process it ASAP! This is also a courtesy to any CR you had so that they may appropriately move forward with their characters.

The Continent of Kamurkia
"TOWN" (YOU ARE HERE)
Downstream by Shira Kammen
2:41 / 6:36
▶︎
Multi-instrumentalist and occasional vocalist Shira Kammen has spent well over half her life exploring the worlds of early and traditional music.

This is the town Charlie created to host all you poor unfortunate off-worlders! It’s cozy, to say the least, and nestled neatly to the west of Ich and the south of Talahee Forest in a verdant little valley. Encircled by rivers, you can fish and swim to your hearts delight. There are wooden fences and gates indicating where the range of the town’s territory is, but there is no shortage of rolling hills and trees to sit under and nap. To the east there are what looks like the overgrown remains of some orchards. Fruit still grows but the trees and land need work. Don’t forget the small woods where you arrived which has plenty of flora and fauna to explore!

The town itself has cottages ranging from small single living to large family accommodations. It is primitive living: no running water, electricity or modern conveniences, but it’s a solid roof over your head with basic furnishings and a garden to boot! The market at the center of town is stocked and has the basics of life, free of charge. Fresh fruit, veggies, meat and eggs, candles, soap etc. All very organic or hand-made as you would imagine! They are not anything fancy, but they do the job... and free is a great price.

A large fountain sits in the center of the circular settlement, water pouring from it’s cupped hands. It seems rather older than the rest of the settlement. There is a well just at the edge of town to draw water as well as several shop fronts that seem unoccupied at the moment. The town is also equipped with a meeting hall should the residents feel the desire to congregate. Aside from the traditional cottages there appears to be a few farm set-ups as well that exist outside the town proper. Chickens, livestock and the like do wander the area, but you’ll have to wrangle them yourself!

You can of course find Charlie either in the welcome office or in his very modest home if you have need of him. Just near the welcome office also lies a bulletin board with requests from the locals for various kinds of jobs and needs should you feel the desire to earn some coin or possibly interesting goodies.
Bordering Towns
ALT TEXT
    Ich
A farming town to the north, the residents seem to be rather insular and superstitious according to rumors. They have a very healthy fear of the Talahee Forest’s patrons and give it a very, very wide berth.
ALT TEXT
    Hast
A small mining town that relies on Bail Mountain’s rich mineral deposits for livelihood. The town’s schedules and goings-on are said to all function according to the large clocktower in the center. A place that thrives on routine and structure.
Landmarks
ALT TEXT
    Talahee Forest
A Fae Forest of legend. Nestled in the cup of a great crater, the forest runs deep. Very few mortals take the chance to venture here for good reason. If the forest doesn’t get you, the fae will.
CITY-STATES
New Svihelen [Locked]
ALT TEXT

A massive city-state and the primary port for South Kamurkia. The citizens here often enjoy the convenience of having plenty of imports and business. There is some talk of a problem with classism here, but the merchants clogging the streets don’t seem to care who takes their coin.
Raumm [Locked]
ALT TEXT

A city-state that dwarfs New Svihelen. It sits on the edge of the desert and acts as the gateway to the northern wilds. The most notable thing you will learn about Raumm is that is governed by… mailmen? Given the state of the land and the lengths and danger one must go to travel from place to place, Raumm’s mailmen are all apex warriors.

If you make a name for yourself defeating formidable foes, they may just scout you to join the training academy. That aside, Raumm is also known for being on the leading edge of all technology and thrives off water-powered electricity. They are a thriving hub of commerce and one of the superpowers of the world.
Vorrun
ALT TEXT

Only recently has aught been learned of Vorrun, relatively speaking. Previously a secretive city-state sequestered off from the rest of the world, Vorrun has now joined the alliance of Kamurkia and begun to deal in open trade. It is a sanctuary for beastmen, who still suffer some discrimination. A tight-knit community that places high value on mastery. Whatever your pursuit is in life, your goal is to be the very best at it here.

Premise / Introduction

Premise & Arrival
It doesn’t matter if you usually sleep or not. Now you do. More so, you dream. They are vivid dreams. Shapes begin to form in the fog of your mind and the sound of wings beating gradually sharpens to reveal the image of a great dragon flying toward you.

A Place to Call Home (FFIX Soundtrack)
0:21 / 2:09
▶︎
A short, melodic piece based on the D Dorian mode and is contrapuntal in nature.
The appearance of this dragon varies from person to person. Maybe they are adorned with shining gold scales or perhaps a mottled, deep red. Appearances really aren't what you might be caught up on, because again: They are coming directly at you. No matter how you try, you cannot move. You cannot run. Even closing your eyes only allows you to hear more distinctly the wing-beats of this creature coming closer.

Just as the beast appears to be on top of you... it dissipates. Or so it seems to. You can still feel its presence although it is different now.

It is within you.

Your world stretches and it feels as though you are waking from this dream. As you wake, you find yourself lying in the middle of a runic circle and surrounded by trees. The circle glows bright but once you are fully material here then it fades and eventually disappears.

You look around and see you are in a forest clearing. The sounds of birds and nature surround you and- Oh, look! There's a sign. That's helpful.

It is hand-painted on a piece of wood and nailed to a tree.

"Town." it reads, with an arrow pointing down a trail that leads out of the clearing.

If you follow the arrow, only twenty or so minutes of walking will indeed take you to a town. It is a small town but a town nonetheless. It sits neatly just on the shore of a glittering ocean. Sandy beach curves against it on one side, while the forest you just came from borders the other.

If you choose to walk anywhere but the town, in any other direction, you will find yourself coming back to town. You’re not sure how you get turned around, but you do! Even your best dead-reckoning, even following the shore, and even trying to soar away will lead you right to the same town coming back into view over the horizon.

Upon entering the town's gate, you find yourself walking through a small building. There is a sign here too that reads:

"Welcome! Please don’t panic! You’re going to be okay, we promise! Please ring the bell for service!"

The bell sits on a desk that separates the room from another door. Upon ringing it, you hear a thump, some muffled words of distress, and a few more muted sounds of shuffling before a young man swings open the closed door. He stands with a smile, though there is certainly a hint of worry behind it. "Oh, dear. Another one... I'm terribly sorry, you must be so disoriented. Don’t worry, please have a seat over there and help yourself to the tea on the table. I’ll be with you shortly and explain what I can."

The man disappears for another moment before returning with a small package wrapped in paper and twine. He introduces himself as Charlie. You have been called to this world for reasons unknown to him - and everyone, actually - so he is currently attempting to find a way to send you home.

He lays out a few basic facts for you:
    1. You are on the continent of Kamurkia.
    2. It is recovering from a great calamity.
    3. Recently, a summoning circle appeared and began bringing in people from off-world.
    4. What's more is, these people's souls (i.e. yours) have resonated with the soul of a dragon that had once ruled over this land.
    5. Charlie is actually the recently-christened god of this land; however, his power and magic has all but been depleted due to his efforts in helping stop the calamity from claiming the world.
    6. Charlie has created this town to house the off-worlders that are now arriving… and seem unable to maintain their forms too far away from the summoning-circle.
    7. He’s working on it.
He provides you with a package. Within it, you find: a few changes of clothes, some provisions, creature-comforts, and most importantly, a small stone tablet. This is a sending-stone and will allow quick communication between yourself and any other residents of the town. You are free to take your pick from any of the vacant homes within town.
