DRAGON-BOND TRAINING: SPAR SESSIONS
IT'S TIME TO DUEL

Now that people have been here for a while and are fully bonded to their dragon souls, the NPCs are here to teach you how to be a proper dragon.
How?
By probably kicking your ass in battle. It's time to learn by example in hands-on demonstrations AKA sparring sessions! Choose your difficulty, select your fighter, and fight on.
None of these battles will end in any severe injuries; it's all in good fun to help teach people to use their dragon breath weapons and other capabilities (claws, fangs, etc.) to be prepared to defend themselves.

CHARLIE

NORMAL DIFFICULTY

Charlie mainly uses healing and defensive spells, as well as impeding spells in hopes of exhausting his opponents. He plays softball and doesn't seem to be taking this so much as a sparring match, but a game.

HARD DIFFICULTY

Half transformed and difficult to look at straight on, the incandescent semi-draconic form of the hapless god moves quickly and fires volleys of radiant magic. Have you ever played a bullet hell game? Get ready to.

DIMITRI

NORMAL DIFFICULTY

Less of a spar and more of a training lesson. Dimitri is quick on his feet and delivers hard, punishing slaps with the flat side of his blade that may lave a bruise. Movements are tight and calculated with an emphasis on economy of motion and energy. He critiques your form as you spar and praises you when you make a good move.

HARD DIFFICULTY

You get to see the powers of a Blade Savant as Dimitri's multiple swords float free from his body and make independent attacks. He's still quick and calculated, but now you feel like you're fighting a beyblade with knives attached.

SLAYD

NORMAL DIFFICULTY

You feel it in your fingers, you feel it in your toes, you're fighting a fae-raised bard, and you've got to know- you picked the wrong day to fuck around with Slayd's tight crew (possums), and boy does he perceive you. Get ready for a volley of avoidance tactics, distractions, illusions and other annoying bard skills. UGH.

HARD DIFFICULTY

Oh, he's transformed now. Anyone ever play Monster Hunter and remember Zinogre? Yeah. He's going to charge you like a raging bull covered in crackling electricity. Wind buffets you and if his horns, claws or fangs don't catch you, the electricity will. Welcome to a nightmare Pikachu.

Who They're Fighting: Slayd
Difficulty: Normal or Hard
Dice Roll: 7
Summary: Angeal isn't approaching this super seriously, and is mostly curious to see what being a 'bard' entails in this world. So while he'll try to zero in on Slayd - he can tell this is a ranged opponent he's going up against, and distance is their friend - he's also not going at it full steam ahead. Mostly sticking to hand-to-hand techniques, just to make things harder on himself. For fun.
He is also flirting more than a little bit. Which is probably really why he loses the fight.
But depending on his roll to seduce - which I didn't do - he might still win in another way! That's for the mods to decide!
Defeat!
Maybe some post-sparring activities are in order?

Who They're Fighting: Dimitri
Difficulty: Normal
Dice Roll: 2
Summary: Ignis is actually only mildly interested in using his draconic features to fight here, although Dimitri will already know that he's become decently adept at using his wings.... you know, when he was younger, during the winter when they first had those lessons.
Rather, it will become quite clear in short order that Ignis is trying to learn how to best utilize this world's spells to augment his ability in combat. Dimitri, if he lets it go on long enough, will notice that Ignis appears to know just a few cantrips for now: Mage Hand, Prestidigitation, and Minor Illusion.
Also Mending, but that's not really combat appropriate in most cases.
Then again, one could argue that most of these cantrips aren't combat appropriate, but, well, Sveargith was a bartender in his past life, so the most familiar spells that he would pass down to his 'partner' wouldn't be, really. Still, Ignis gives it the good ol' college try.
Yet this world's magic is quite different from what Ignis had access to in his world - which is to say, they were basically grenades. While he's had practice using them around the house, using these cantrips in a combat situation, against an opponent like Dimitri no less, seems to be giving him some trouble.
But there's only one way to learn, after all!
Defeat!
He's not as nice as Slayd and doesn't heal you after... the pain will teach a better lesson or something...

Don't worry, Dimitri. He'll be back for this again.
Forgot about these in all the other excitement whoops
Who They're Fighting: Charlie
Difficulty: Normal
Dice Roll: 11
Summary: Popp has a lot of magical energy stored up - while he's been known to run out, and probably collapses right after the match concludes, it still takes quite a bit to exhaust him... Even if he's got a decent handle on casting two spells at once by now. He knows Charlie's a big deal and he can tell he's going easy on him, so he doesn't hold back with fire, ice, or explosions. Sorry about the sparring field...?
His best defense against status effect types of spells is to avoid them or to interrupt the spell going off in the first place, he has no curing abilities and his resistance for such things is historically pretty bad.
