To the dragons, it will be more like intense nostalgia, a vivid memory. If your character eats a pie, the dragon may remember perfectly what it was like to eat pie, but they will not taste it.
They can hear thoughts directed toward them, and some that aren't, but that is up to the players discretion as far as how far they want that to go. Each bond is different and will progress at different rates.
