โ CHARACTER Character Name: Gethen Daybreak Canon: Guild Wars 2 (AU) Canon Point: Janthir Wilds, end of Act 2 (current story at time of writing) Age: 30 Link to History: character wiki // story timeline // AU story summary
Personality: Gethen is an assassin and a hunter to his core. He's quiet, wary, and proactive, a pragmatist who's very private with his emotions. Through the most influential years of his life he had been confident that he had found his place in the world as the muscle supporting his wiser mate. Losing Tamsin has forced him to learn a new kind of independence and to be a leader when he had been content to live as a follower, but in many respects these are lessons he's still learning. He's most comfortable in the field, especially running recon, and detests direct confrontations. His relationship with dragons is complicated: Tamsin deeply trusts Aurene, the Prismatic Dragon, but the scars Gethen bears from the Elder dragons, particularly Aurene's grandfather, run deep, even if he now accepts that they are more than mindless forces of destruction. When not risking his life trying to save the world, Gethen tries to relax by woodworking and leatherworking. Since taking up a temporary residence on the Isles of Janthir, he has also been working on developing a taste for gardening and home decorating, the former of which he pursues with the specific intent of someday impressing and supporting Tamsin.
AU Clarification: (Explained in story summary linked above) Gethen's story is one half of the GW2 Commander/Wayfinder's storyline, with some unique story additions thrown in. He is not the Pact Commander, the Champion of Aurene, or the slayer of Zhaitan or Mordremoth, but he is the raid commander for all raid wing stories and had a hand in the deaths of Balthazar and the other Elder Dragons. His mate, Tamsin, fills the narrative roles that Gethen does not; together, their lives make up the canon player character's full storyline. After the events of End of Dragons, Gethen takes center stage as the Wayfinder, while Tamsin is completely absent from main story events as of the end of Janthir Wilds' second act.
Prior to joining Dragon's Watch during Path of Fire, Gethen lost his warband to Kralkatorrik's Dragonbrand instead of to Duke Barradin, and followed the charr personal story beats through to joining the Order of Whispers, where his rank-climbing ended at the position of Lightbringer. He was an anonymous Pact member to Tamsin through the events of Heart of Thorns, developed a grudge against Tamsin upon deciding he was a direct threat to his own goals of avenging his warband by slaying Kralkatorrik, and pursued the Commander with the intent of assassinating him. He fought Tamsin in the Elon Riverlands and died with him during The Departing, and the two of them were forced to come to a mutual understanding as they fought each other in the Domain of the Lost for one another's memories and respective claims to life. After slaying the Ghost Eater with Tamsin and returning to the land of the living, he joined Dragon's Watch as Tamsin's closest confidant and eventual spouse.
Gethen also served as Primordus's Champion during the events of the Icebrood Saga alongside his close friend Braham Eirsson.
Dragon Bond Suggestion: I would prefer a dragon that contrasts Gethen's proactive and pragmatic disposition, ideally a scholar of some kind if that's an option. No color preference, but going by disposition alone I am expecting metallic. Dragon Bond Changes: Depends on the dragon, but my hope is for Gethen's bond to push him in a more introspective, curious, and bookish direction. It would rouse some feelings in him that I think would be very interesting to explore in RP, alongside just generally shifting what sorts of people he might gravitate to.
Game Plan: Gethen is fairly willing to adapt to astonishing and confusing situations. His first angle for adjusting to this new situation will be to meet people, figure out who to trust, and determine who among his peers might need his help. He's fairly confident at his time of arrival as the Wayfinder, and he would aim to continue playing that role here in Kamurkia. It's my hope to keep him actively involved in both central plot and major investigations other players are inclined to pursue, but I am also leaving things open-ended as far as what conclusions he ends up drawing about what is right and wrong here. If he ends up in a position where he might assume that Charlie isn't to be trusted, I'll gladly run with that.
