Personality: We are introduced to Ignis Scientia for a good chunk of the main game as, indeed, one of Noctis's battling party members... but he seems to be primarily the caretaker and butler of the group in some ways. He cooks for everyone, he does the grocery shopping, he gets up before their alarms every morning, he remembers details that fall through Noctis and Prompto's brains because they were too busy playing King's Knight all night, and he casually comes up with lies that get them through border patrol because that's what you learn as the king's retainer.
Normal battle butler stuff. You know.
And then you get into the first couple of fort infiltration segments in the main story, a decent chunk into it, and he casually drops lowkey batshit lines like how bones snap easier than metal, or whatever, and you realize: oh!
Ignis Scientia has problems.
You see this fun little dichotomy in his role in Noctis' party, and how Ignis plays in his DLC. In the main game, Ignis isn't exactly the primary source of DPS of the squad, with that being left to generally Noctis and Gladio. Instead, Ignis's skills are primarily focused on providing support in the way of healing, analyzing enemy weaknesses, and even doing things like foregoing attacking in order to hand Noctis bullets if his prince happens to be using a gun.
And then you get to Episode Ignis, and the man is let off his chain, and, in order: - bulldozes through legions of magitek soldiers by his own enchanted daggers - hollywood drives a boat to avoid a gunship - takes down a giant robot, piloted by the same guy who was trying to shoot him down in a gunship (who he might have broken the legs of earlier in the main story, don't worry about it) - somehow homoerotically charms an enemy commander who'd been otherwise hyperfocusing on his own shit by doing all of this (which isn't necessarily important to Ignis being off his chain, but is important) - with zero hesitation is willing to make a great sacrifice in order for even a chance to maul Ardyn - ....and in one universe, makes that sacrifice in the right situation and definitely mauls Ardyn aka the immortal walking plague vector with a million weapons - while instantly getting the hang of warping within five seconds, while Episode Ardyn's warping enemies were bodied by the immortal in no time, so what the FUCK is going on with Ignis Scientia
This is a younger Ignis, but that primarily changes how much experience he has, because the base bones of "refined polite battle butler is actually violently feral" never left
anyway Ignis loves Noctis so much and we should all probably thank god for that
