There's tons of stuff to do around town. New housing is still being built, animals need feeding and cared for, you can plant and help tend to crops. There aren't too many natives in town so many of the basic facilities are unmanned at the moment and in need of someone to take over!

The streams/creeks vary, deep enough to swim in, possible over the head in some spots/swimming holes but overall knee to waist deep. The rivers that boarder the region are deep enough to drown in if you're not careful.
